Service definition
e-Identification uses electronic person-identification data to determine the subject of a transaction. It is an identity semantic layer, not the term for biometric 1:N search.
Determining the subject through electronic identity data and relevant sources, distinct from 1:N biometric search.
Electronic identification ≠ biometric identification
e-Identification uses electronic person-identification data to determine the subject of a transaction. It is an identity semantic layer, not the term for biometric 1:N search.
May include eID, VNeID/RAR/C06 or other authoritative sources where the integration and legal/contractual permission are confirmed.
Identity/attribute result within the source and transaction scope; it does not automatically create an assurance level unless policy/contract defines one.
Identification answers “who is the subject”; verification checks a specific claim/evidence and can be used in proofing, re-verification or step-up.
Authentication confirms the current actor for a session/access event; an eID may support authentication, but the concepts are not synonyms.
Biometric identification is a 1:N gallery search and must be labelled explicitly as biometric identification.
Taxonomy consistency is a release gate.
| Concept | Primary input | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| e-Identification | Electronic identity data / identity source | Determine the transaction subject |
| e-Verification | Specific claim/evidence | Verify validity/consistency/holder binding by method |
| e-Authentication | Authenticator / eID / federation where supported | Confirm the current actor |
| Biometric Identification | Biometric template/gallery | 1:N candidate search |
A reference does not by itself mean CheckID conforms to or is certified against the document.
